The conservancy promotes community action to achieve better environmental outcomes. It focuses on river systems and remnant veld around Swellendam. We try to solve problems through exciting solutions by bringing people and systems together to the benefit of man and beast.

Community‑led conservation

SBC Swellendam Silcrete Veld Project
A conservation initiative focused on the protection, awareness, and long-term conservation of Swellendam’s unique Silcrete veld habitat. The project forms part of an official Adopt-a-Spot Programme approved by the Swellendam Municipality for the period 2026 to 2028. Through environmental education, biodiversity awareness, and responsible stewardship, the project contributes towards community-led conservation within the greater Swellendam.

SBC Masbiekerskloof Project
A community-supported conservation initiative focused on the removal and management of invasive alien vegetation within the Masbiekerskloof area, with the aim of protecting indigenous biodiversity, improving ecosystem health and reducing fireloads. The project forms part of an official Adopt-a-Spot Programme approved by the Swellendam Municipality for the period 2026 to 2028.

SBC Wildlife Rescue Fund
The SBC Wildlife Rescue Fund is a community-supported conservation initiative that assists with the emergency care and short-term welfare of indigenous wildlife within the greater Swellendam area. Through local support, donations, environmental awareness, and collaboration with veterinarians and permitted rehabilitation centres, the Fund contributes towards wildlife rescue and rehabilitation in Swellendam.

SBC Swellendam Tree Route
A community-led environmental awareness initiative that encourages appreciation, education, and conservation of the indiginous trees that form part of Swellendam’s natural and historical landscape. Through community participation and biodiversity awareness, the project promotes local environmental stewardship and conservation within the greater Swellendam area.

The SBC’s environmental education and awareness initiatives aim to promote greater understanding, appreciation, and responsible stewardship of the natural environment through community engagement, information sharing, and conservation-focused education within the greater Swellendam area.

The SBC believes that collaboration with other conservation organisations, specialists, landowners, and community groups is essential for effective and sustainable conservation within the greater Swellendam area. Fundraising and community support play a vital role in enabling the SBC to continue its environmental projects, awareness initiatives, and conservation efforts, helping to create a meaningful and lasting impact within the community.
